Hot Potato Band Workshop

Energise your band program with Hot Potato Band at HOTA! This dynamic Sydney-based brass collective brings high-energy, interactive performances to life, showing students what engaging music looks like in action.

In these interactive workshops, students and participants will learn Hot Potato Band repertoire to perform live on stage alongside HPB at the HOTA Kids Take Over Festival Launch Concert on Sat 19 Sept 2026, 6pm.

#Workshop Information

Schools and participants will receive music copies upon reservation and payment, allowing students to learn and practice ahead of the workshop and concert—memorisation is encouraged for a full Hot Potato Band experience. Workshops are limited to 50–75 participants. Students must bring their own instruments and equipment. All wind, brass, and percussion instruments are welcome!

Recommended Playing Requirements – Schools:

  • Beginner/Novice Players: approx. 1 year of learning, concert band level 0.5
  • Intermediate Players: approx. 2+ years of learning, concert band level 1.5–2
  • Advanced Players: approx. 3+ years of learning, concert band level 2.5–3

HOT POTATO BAND repertoire will be emailed to participating schools and individuals upon booking.

Attending the Hot Potato Band concert at HOTA provides students with a rich, real-world opportunity to engage with key music curriculum outcomes. Students develop critical listening and performance skills, exploring rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, and texture, while understanding how musicians convey energy, mood, and cultural expression. The experience inspires composition and improvisation, demonstrates contemporary music technologies, and showcases how visual elements enhance live performance. It also connects students with diverse music styles, inclusive communities, and professional pathways in the music industry.
