A Bigger View
22 Jun 2024 - 21 Jun 2026A Bigger View
Embark on a journey of epic proportions as you immerse yourself in monumental works of art from the National Gallery of Australia (NGA). Made possible through the Australian Government’s Sharing the National Collection initiative, this exhibition brings together masterpieces from the NGA alongside major works from our very own Collection.
Spanning decades and continents, each epic in scale and subject, these paintings demonstrate various approaches to the genre of landscape painting.
Hockney’s, A Bigger Grand Canyon, a 7.4-metre-long landscape painting consists of 60 canvases capturing this natural wonder from different viewpoints and times of day. Accompanying this tour de force of contemporary landscape is an extraordinary work by senior Australian artist, Imants Tillers, presenting a vision of the Australian landscape Mount Analogue inspired by Eugene Von Guérard’s 1863 masterpiece North-east view from the northern top of Mount Kosciusko, seen here together for the first time.
Complementing these are expansive works by British modernist Bridget Riley and beloved Australian artists represented in the HOTA Collection Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori and William Robinson.
Prepare to be awestruck by the grandeur of these works, inviting contemplation of the world around us, exploring a bigger view.
