ArtKeeper 2022: Fletcher Babb

Cold Ghost is singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and sound designer, Fletcher Babb.

Fletch explores songwriting as a vehicle for stories - real and imagined - and uses post-production as an extension of instrumentation. His latest album Dominoes was a finalist for Release of the Year in the 2022 Gold Coast Music Awards.

It’s a river with many names and many stories.

Gold Coast songwriter Fletcher Babb (aka Cold Ghost) will explore the history, stories and flow of the Nerang River through a collection of songs that will be produced entirely at HOTA and Evandale Parklands.

From its origins in the Numinbah Valley to its wide mouth in the Broadwater, the Nerang River quenches the thirsty Gold Coast population and fills the not-so-natural canals that carve through the suburbs between Burleigh and Surfers Paradise.

Its waters have nourished people for millennia and the shifting sands of the river mouth have moved and changed while supporting industries like cotton during the American Civil War, sugar in the 20th century and providing the original water playground for the city’s first tourists.

There are ghosts from the past haunting the banks to this day.
