Seniors Month at HOTA

Share

This October we’re celebrating Seniors Month, a whole month to applaud the wonderful contributions that seniors make to our community and to foster connections. There’s so much on for Seniors at HOTA this month, with a range of free and low-cost activities on offer.

We’re embracing creative minds, connections and seniors living boldly. From wild wordsmiths in slam poetry, inspiring documentaries, and the glitz of The Great Gatsby – there’s something for everyone!

#Slam Poetry with a Difference

A wild bunch of free-wheeling wordsmiths of wisdom are hitting the stage for a slam poetry event with a difference.

We’re kicking off Seniors Month with Gran Slam LIVE by Everybody NOW!, celebrating passionate voices, creative minds and connection.

Hosted by award-winning comedian Jenny Wynter, with special guest Aussie Hip Hop legend, Morganics, Gran Slam Live features comedy, music, and poetry that will have you laughing, cheering and left in awe, as our razor-sharp collective of poetic stars battle it out with their intimate reflections and hilarious insights into life, ageing, freedom and everything in between.

#Living Boldly on the Big Screen

A short film festival showcasing seniors living fearlessly.

To celebrate Gold Coast Seniors Month, we are highlighting short films that challenge traditional views and stereotypes around ageing. The Fearless Film Festival features short documentaries across the Fearless Film series, sharing inspiring stories of seniors living bold lives.

We’ll take you through the inspiration to Fearless Films, plus you will have a chance to meet some cast and crew.

#Celebrate the Golden Decade of Jazz

Stimulate the senses with hits from The Great Gatsby.

The annual Mayor’s Seniors Concert will take you back in time to the golden decade of glitz and glamour, the roaring 20’s!

Presented by City of Gold Coast, you’ll be bopping to the Charleston in a spectacular tribute to The Great Gatsby. You’ll be taken on an hour-long journey with swaying feathers, glistening jewels and the sounds of tap dancing and sirens singing.

#Storytelling through Theatre and Dance

Home of live performances.

Take in a breathtaking production while you’re at HOTA this Seniors Month.

Witness one of the most iconic pieces of English literature retold in a faithful yet fiercely original new stage adaptation, or see sibling relationships expressed through dance, theatre and storytelling.
